A Roof You Will Not Think About Again
A re-roof is the biggest thing most people ever have done to their house, and the part that goes wrong is almost never the tiles. It is the price moving. Something gets found once the covering is off, the scaffolding is already there, and you are negotiating from a position with no leverage at all.
We survey the roof before quoting, including the parts that are easy to skip, and we tell you up front what we expect to find underneath. If a batten or a rafter end is likely to need replacing, you hear about it at the quote rather than on day three.
Then the work itself: covering off, structure checked, new treated battens, breathable membrane, new lead where the old has had its life, and a covering that suits the house and the street rather than whatever was cheapest that week.

What you get from us
What Comes With A Full Re-Roof
The structure gets looked at
With the covering off, the battens, rafter ends and wall plate are visible for the first time in decades. We check them rather than tiling straight back over them.
Materials that suit the house
Slate wants slate, plain tile wants plain tile. We show you the options and are straight about cost and appearance rather than steering you to whatever is in the yard.
Nothing appears later
Scaffolding, skips, disposal, lead and membrane are all inside the figure you agree. If something genuinely unforeseeable appears, we show it to you before doing anything about it.
How A Re-Roof Actually Runs
A full re-roof on a typical Medway house runs like this:
- Scaffold and protection - proper access, and the garden, paths and neighbouring property covered.
- Strip and sort - the old covering comes off, anything reusable is set aside, the rest goes in the skip.
- Structure inspected - battens, rafter ends, valleys and wall plate checked while they are visible, and you are shown anything that is not right.
- Membrane and battens - breathable underlay and new treated battens gauged to the covering going back on.
- New covering - slate, plain tile, pantile or interlocking, laid to the correct gauge and lap.
- Lead and detailing - fresh flashings, soakers and valleys rather than the old lead refitted.
- Ridge, verge and clean-up - ridges bedded or dry-fixed, verges finished, and the site left tidy.
Most re-roofs on a terraced or semi-detached house are a matter of days rather than weeks, and you stay in the house throughout.
Common questions
New Roof Questions We Get Asked
Natural slate can run well past a century. Clay plain tiles often manage eighty years or more. Concrete interlocking tiles are usually good for forty to sixty. What tends to fail first is not the covering at all - it is the battens, the nails and the lead around them.
Swapping like for like normally does not. Changing the covering, the colour or the shape of the roof often does, and parts of Medway fall inside conservation areas where the rules are tighter. We establish which applies before anything is ordered.
Yes, it is done regularly. The junction at the party wall and the shared ridge need handling properly so the finished job is watertight and does not read as half a roof from the pavement.
Replacement is the right answer when the covering itself is finished: slipping in several places at once, battens breaking up underneath, or the same leak turning up somewhere new each winter. One bad flashing is not that. We will tell you which you have got, including when the answer is the cheaper one.
No. It is noisy and there will be scaffolding across the front, but the house stays liveable throughout and the roof is never left open overnight.
Yes, and you get it in writing alongside the manufacturer guarantees on the materials themselves. Ask for both before accepting any re-roof quote, from us or anybody else.
