The Smallest Job That Saves The Most
Guttering is the least interesting part of a roof and the part that causes the most expensive damage when it is ignored. Water running down a wall for a couple of winters gets into the brickwork, shows up as damp inside, and rots the timber behind the fascia on its way past.
The sequence is the same on every street. The gutter blocks. Water spills at the back rather than the front. The fascia board soaks up the overflow and goes soft. Then the gutter it is holding starts to sag, and spills more.
Caught early it is a small job. Left alone it turns into replacing boards, rafter feet and internal plaster. We will tell you straight which of those you are looking at.

We fix what is causing the damp
A damp patch on an outside wall is usually a gutter rather than a wall problem. Treating the wall without fixing the gutter is money spent on the wrong thing entirely.
Proper falls and proper fixings
Gutter run to a consistent fall towards the outlet and bracketed at the right spacing, so it drains properly and does not sag between fixings.
The boards get checked too
New guttering screwed to a rotten fascia is a job that comes back. We check what we are fixing to before we fix anything to it.

Common questions
Guttering Questions We Get Asked
Once a year on most houses, twice if there are trees close by. Autumn is the obvious time. It is a small cost set against what overflowing gutters do to a wall.
Usually the fall is wrong, or a bracket has dropped and created a dip that holds water. It can also be that the outlet is undersized for the roof area. All of those are fixable without replacing the whole run.
If the board is sound, no. If it is soft, yes, because new guttering fixed to rotten timber will pull away from it. We will show you the state of the board rather than just telling you it needs doing.
Only where the timber underneath is sound and dry. Capping over rot seals the problem in and it carries on quietly behind the new board. We will say honestly which situation you have got.
Not for gutter work, provided we can get to the back of the house. For fascia and soffit replacement it helps if someone is around at the start and the end.
A typical terraced or semi-detached house is a day, occasionally two if the boards need replacing rather than capping and the access is awkward.
